A kutatás összefoglalója, célkitűzései szakemberek számára Itt írja le a kutatás fő célkitűzéseit a témában jártas szakember számára. Levéltári alapkutatások, illetve a vonatkozó horvát és magyar nyelvű szakirodalom segítségével arra vállalkozunk, hogy a Zrínyi család - a Muraköz területével lényegében átfedést mutató - csáktornyai uradalmának példáján keresztül modellezzük egy kora újkori nagybirtok militarizációját. Azt az alig ismert folyamatot, amelynek eredményeképpen az uradalom népessége aktívan részt vállalt a határrégióvá vált tájegység védelmében. Beható vizsgálatunk fel kívánja tárni a kiváltó okokat, a kezdeményező(k) személyét, időintervallumát, az esetleges mintakövetést éppúgy, mint a vélelmezhető prioritásokat. A Batthyány, Nádasdy és Esterházy családok nyugat-dunántúli uradalmaival összevetésben pedig kísérletet teszünk a muraközi katonatársadalom specifikumainak meghatározására.
Mi a kutatás alapkérdése? Ebben a részben írja le röviden, hogy mi a kutatás segítségével megválaszolni kívánt probléma, mi a kutatás kiinduló hipotézise, milyen kérdéseket válaszolnak meg a kísérletek. Mindenekelőtt arra a kérdésre keressük a választ, hogy a Zrínyi család határvidékké lett muraközi (más néven csáktornyai) uradalma milyen létszámú, összetételű, eredetű haderőt tudott az oszmánellenes védelem céljaira kiállítani a 17. század folyamán. A horvát-magyar főúri család magánhadereje milyen módon járult hozzá az uralkodó által fenntartott végvárrendszer működéséhez, illetve mennyiben volt hatékony a két szervezet kooperációja? Arra is választ kívánunk adni, hogy a természet által is oltalmazott folyamköz - a kortársak szóhasználatával "Sziget" - tekinthető-e zárt védelmi egységnek a török háborúk korában.
Mi a kutatás jelentősége? Röviden írja le, milyen új perspektívát nyitnak az alapkutatásban az elért eredmények, milyen társadalmi hasznosíthatóságnak teremtik meg a tudományos alapját. Mutassa be, hogy a megpályázott kutatási területen lévő hazai és a nemzetközi versenytársaihoz képest melyek az egyediségei és erősségei a pályázatának! Projektünk reményeink szerint ráirányíthatja a hazai kutatás figyelmét a trianoni döntés (1920) értelmében Magyarország határain kívül került, ma Horvátországhoz tartozó Muraköz kutatására. Ez kiváló lehetőséget kínál a horvát kutatókkal való együttműködés elmélyítésére, különös tekintettel arra, hogy a régió vizsgálata a szomszédos országban sem élvez(ett) prioritást. A Muraköz multjának vizsgálata - a mindkét ország történelmében meghatározó szerepet játszó Zrínyi család révén - a kora újkor kutatásának kiemelt területe lehet.
A kutatás összefoglalója, célkitűzései laikusok számára Ebben a fejezetben írja le a kutatás fő célkitűzéseit alapműveltséggel rendelkező laikusok számára. Ez az összefoglaló a döntéshozók, a média, illetve az érdeklődők tájékoztatása szempontjából különösen fontos az NKFI Hivatal számára. A magyar és horvát nemzet hőseinek panteonjában egyaránt méltán helyet helyet kapott Zrínyi Miklós (1620-1664) és Péter (1621-1671) muraközi haderejének vizsgálata újabb adalékokat szolgáltathat a költő és hadvezér, illetve tragikus sorsú fivére életútjához. A határrégió kutatása - amellett, hogy elősegíti a végvárrendszer működésének jobb megértését -, újabb ismeretekkel gazdagíthatja a két nép közös, oszmánok ellen folytatott küzdelmének történetét.

Summary of the research and its aims for experts Describe the major aims of the research for experts. With archival basic research and the help of referring Croatian and Hungarian scientific literature we intend to model the militarization of a large estate in the early modern times through the latifundium of Csáktornya of the Zrínyi family, which overlapped with the area of the Muraköz. The hardly known process as a result of which the people of the latifundium took over active role in the defence of the area that had become a border region. Our detailed research wishes to reveal the triggering causes, to name the initiators, the time interval, the possible following of a pattern, as well as the constructive priorities. Comparing with the Western-Transdanubian latifundiums of the Batthyány, Nádasdy and Esterházy families, we try to define the specialities of the military society of the Muraköz.
What is the major research question? Describe here briefly the problem to be solved by the research, the starting hypothesis, and the questions addressed by the experiments. First of all we want to get the answer to the question what the number, the combination, the origin of the military force set up for defence against the Ottomans was on the border estate of Muraköz (Csáktornya) in the 17th century. How the private military force of the Zrínyi family contributed to the functioning of the border fortress system maintained by the monarch and to what extent the cooperation of the two systems was efficient? We also would like to get the answer whether the area between the rivers protected by nature (called ’Island’ by the contemporaries) can be regarded as a closed defensive unit in the era of the Turkish wars.
What is the significance of the research? Describe the new perspectives opened by the results achieved, including the scientific basics of potential societal applications. Please describe the unique strengths of your proposal in comparison to your domestic and international competitors in the given field. We hope that our project will draw the attention of the Hungarian historians to the research of Muraköz detached from Hungary as a result of the Treaty of Trianon (1920) and belonging to Croatia now. It gives an excellent opportunity to extend cooperation with Croatian researchers, with special regard to the fact that the research of the region has not had a priority in the neighbouring country either. The Muraköz – through the Zrínyi family having a decisive role in the history of both countries – can be a significant area of researches of the early modern times.
Summary and aims of the research for the public Describe here the major aims of the research for an audience with average background information. This summary is especially important for NRDI Office in order to inform decision-makers, media, and others. In the pantheon of the heroes of the Hungarian and Croatian nations Miklós Zrínyi (1620-1664) and Péter (1621-1671) deserved their place and the research of their military force in the Muraköz can provide new contributions to the biography of the poet and the military leader and his tragic-fated brother. In addition to the better understanding of the functioning of the border fortresses, the research of the border region can enrich the two nations’ common history of struggles against the Ottomans.

Projektünk a Magyar-Horvát Királyság politikai elitjéhez tartozó Zrínyi család csáktornyai uradalmának példáján keresztül kívánta modellezni a kora újkori nagybirtok militarizációját. Azt a folyamatot, amelynek eredményeképpen a – Muraközzel területileg lényegében egybeeső – uradalom népessége aktívan részt vállalt a kényszerűen határrégióvá vált tájegység védelmében. Külföldi és hazai archívumokban folytatott alapkutatásunk feltárta ennek kiváltó okait a kezdeményezők személyét, intervallumát, az esetleges mintakövetést, akárcsak a Zrínyiek mint birtokosok vélelmezhető prioritásait. Más mágnáscsaládok nyugat-dunántúli uradalmaival összevetésben a muraközi katonatársadalom specifikumainak bemutatására is törekedtünk. Az elvárásokat jelentősen meghaladó (tizenkét szerzői ív) terjedelmű kéziratunk a már publikált tanulmányok mellett a nemzetközi tudományos közeg érdeklődésére is számot tarthat.

Our project aimed to model the militarization of the large estate in the early modern period through the domain of Csáktornya owned by the Zrínyi family thatbelonged to the political elite of the Hungarian-Croatian Kingdom. The process as a result of which the people of the estate, which overlapped with the area of the Muraköz, took active role in the defence of the region that had become necessarily a border zone. Our basic research effected both in domestic and foreign archives revealed the triggering causes and the initiators, we defined the time interval, the possible patterns, just like the priorities set by the Zrínyis as possessors as well. In comparison with Western-Transdanubian estates owned by other aristoctratic families we also intended to define the peculiarities of the military society of the Muraköz. The manuscript, the volume of which (twelf author’s sheets) significantly exceeds the expectations, along with the papers that have already been published may awake the interest of the scientific community abroad as well.
