A projekt keretében támogatott nemzetközi tudományos/innovációs rendezvény bemutatása Mutassa be a szervezés alatt álló nemzetközi rendezvény jellegét, célját, programját, célcsoportját és jelentőségét a nemzetközi, illetve hazai tudományos élet szempontjából. A kortárs, posztmodern utáni irodalmi korszak meghatározására számos kísérlet történik az európai tudományban. Ennek a keretalkotó munkának aktív szereplője az Epimodern Kutatócsoport (ERA- Epimodern Research Allience). Az évek óta együtt dolgozó csoport önálló kutatók együttese, akik mögött az európai tudományos élet jelentős intézményei állnak. A tagok az európai és észak-amerikai irodalmak párhuzamos folyamatait olyan 2000. körül vagy azóta született művek alapján vizsgálják, melyek a posztmodern nyelv iránti kételyét és a metanarratívákat továbbra is visszautasítva eleget tesznek a valóságábrázolás és a szórakoztatás igényének is. A megpályázott konferencia az ötödik rendezvény kereteit teremtené meg. A meghívásos konferencián az európai és amerikai irodalomtudomány képviselői vesznek részt. A rendezvény előadásainak és korreferátumainak írásos változataiból készült kötetet a meghívott előadók intézményei is terjesztik, szemlézik, így az az európai tudományos élet jelentős területére, az egyetemi oktatásra és a kutatásra gyakorolna hatást. A vizsgált művek a posztmodern értéksemlegessége után teret adnak a hagyományos értékek kérdésfelvetéseinek. Az új etikai fordulat a klímaválság, a migráció, a politikai hibrid rezsimek, a kevert identitások és multikulturális terek olyan irodalmat hoznak létre, mely a globalizált világ mozgásai között, de a mozgások véletlenszerűségét felfejtve ábrázolják hőseiket. Közös vonás az olvasók visszaszerzésére tett kísérlet, amely a populáris irodalmi formákra való rájátszást a valóságábrázolás igényével egészíti ki. A művekben újra felerősödik a tér-problematikával szemben az időhöz való viszony, s a töredékes szerkezetek magukban hordozzák ugyan a nagyobb egység lehetőégét, ám az olvasóra bízzák annak felépítését és értelmezését . A szövegekben igen erős a mikro- és makrogazdasági viszonyok problematizálása, az elbeszélő szociális és történelmi viszonyainak tudatosítása vagy az én elbeszélésének újragondolása.
A projekt összefoglalója, célkitűzései laikusok számára Adjon egy rövid, közérthető ismertetést a szervezés alatt álló nemzetközi rendezvényről és annak várható eredményeiről. A posztmodern utáni korszak definiálása, a posztmoderntől való eltérés vizsgálata a nemzetközi irodalomtudomány egyik igen fontos iránya. Napjaink nyugat – európai és amerikai irodalmára egyszerre jellemző a posztmodern örökség és a posztmoderntől való eltávolodás. Ennek a korszaknak a megnevezésére számos kifejezés használatos: az off-modern, a poszt-posztmodern, vagy az Emmanuel Bouju professzor által bevezetett és meghonosított epimodern kifejezés. A KRE BTK KORTÁRSKÖZÉP_EURÓPAI REGÉNY kutatócsoportja (https://btk.kre.hu/index.php/2015-12-05-09-31-20/kari-kutatocsoportok/804-kortars-kozep-europai-regeny-kutatocsoport.html)a regionális tendenciák vizsgálata felől érkezett a témához, s találkozott az Emmanuel Bouju (Sorbonne) által bevezetett és meghonosított „epimodern” szemlélettel. Ez hat pontban jelöli ki a korszak jellemzőit (https://ex-situ.info/2020/01/parution-emmanuel-bouju-epimodernes/), s úgy tekint a modern és posztmodern egymást váltó szakaszaira, hogy azokat nem csupán töréseknek látja, hanem egy kontinuitás részeként is igyekszik felmutatni. Az e két szemlélet közösségéből létrejött irodalom-és kultúratudományi kutatócsoport tagjai között van a Sorbonne a Szlovák Tudományos Akadémia Irodalomtörténeti Osztályának, a német GWZO kutatóintézetnek a kanadai University of British Columbiának, illetve Kent Universitynek egy- egy munkatársa is. Közös kutatásuk a kortárs irodalmat nem csupán a posztmodern hagyomány és a posztmodern örökség együttes perspektívájából vizsgálja, de a modern és posztmodern szemlélet szintézisét megteremtő „epimodern” kulturális állapotot az irodalom, a film, a gondolkodás szintjén is igyekszik definiálni. A közönség a bölcsészkarok irodalom- és kultúratudománnyal foglalkozó oktatói és hallgatói közül kerülnek ki. Az előadások alapján írt hosszabb tanulmányok az európai egyetemek könyvtáraiba kerülnek, s a csoport tagjainak szakmai hálójába illeszkednek.

Presentation of the international scientific/innovation event supported in the project Present the type, purpose, agenda, targeted audience, and significance of the international event organized in the international and domestic scientific community. We can see many attempts to define the contemporary literary era. The Epimodern Research Alliance (ERA) is an active participant of this work. The researchers, scholars and professors of major universities and scientific institutions, have been working together for years. They study the parallel processes of European and North American literature. The bases of the works are those kinds of non-fiction books that keep the doubts of the language and metanarratives of postmodernism but they accept the representation of reality. The examined works were written after 2000. They are characterized by the rethinking the value-neutrality of postmodern and they are opened to an ethical turn. This change is enrooted in the appearance of the climate crisis, the world-wide migration, the political hybrid regimes, the mixed identities, and multicultural spaces. A common feature is the attempt to regain the readers’ attention, which complements the use of the popular literary forms but at the same time a new need for a representation of reality can be realized. In the works of question, the spatial problem is changed into the new importance of temporality. The fragmented structures offer the possibility of a significant coherence in the texts but they assign the responsibility and the possibility of its structure and interpretation to the reader. The problematization of micro- and macroeconomic relations, the awareness of the narrator's social and historical relations, or the rethinking of the narrator's self are also important. The planned conference would be the fifth event of the common work. The invited participants of the conference will host the representatives of European and American literary studies. The conference-volume will be made on the written versions of the lectures and discussions of the event. The volume will be distributed and reviewed by the institutions of the invited speakers, so it will have a significant impact factor on university education and research.
Summary and aims of the project for a general audience Provide a short, general introduction to the international event organized and its expected results. The ERA (Epimodernist Research Alliance) is an international research group in comparative literature and cultural studies, dedicated to the elaboration of the theory and the critique of Epimodernism in literature and arts. The members of the ERA are scholars from European and American universities, institutes or independent research networks. The founding members are Emmanuel Bouju (Université Sorbonne-Nouvelle, France), Gaëlle Debeaux (Université de Rennes), Ivana Taranenkova, (Academy of Sciences, Slovakia), Stephan Krause (GWZO, Germany), Csaba Horvath (KRE), Zoltan Z Varga (EKKH, PTE), Szilvia Ritz (University of Szeged). The invited lecturers and participants beside of the Hungarian scholars will be chosen from among French, American, Canadian, German, Slovak, English, Polish, Italian, Dutch and Austrian researchers. The fifth workshop and conference of the group is planned to be held in 2023 in Budapest. Its main goals are to evaluate the relevance of the “epimodernist” landmark in the newest European literature, to constitute and analyze a new corpus of literary works that could be representative of Epimodernism, and to elaborate a bibliography of theoretical essays and books. The research is focusing on the meta-historical value of narrative experience, the political consistency and ethical turn of art, the phantom pain of History, and self-representations as alternate stories of ironical testimony. They intend to keep on both the illustrated rationality of modernist utopias and the ironical skepticism of postmodernist critique. This may seem foremost paradoxical, but the invalidity of master narratives in Western cultures, since their postmodern deconstruction and the postcolonial attack on their prevalence, leaves us with the obligation of imagining new ways of representing the complex reality of a diverse continent and the inner part of its democratic aspirations.

A projekt keretében és támogatásával kétnapos The Epimodern Turn c. angol nyelvű konferencia (2023.05.25-26.) valósult meg, melynek előadói között többen a kortárs irodalomtudomány nemzetközileg meghatározó személyiségei – Emmanuel Bouju, az epimodern megközelítés vezéralakja, Emily Apter, Benjamin Hutchinson, Ian James. A helyszínt a KRE biztosította. A 16 hazai és külföldi előadó hazánkon kívül összesen 8 szomszédos, európai, illetve tengerentúli országból érkezett. Az első napon a szakmai programot Pierre Senges francia író és Tóth Krisztina magyar író, költő felolvasása egészítette ki. Mindkét napon a résztvevők száma meghaladta az 50 főt.
A fő kérdésfelvetés: sikerülhet-e egyazon elmélet segítségével definiálni a poszt-posztmodern világirodalmat? Az előadások tükrében az Emmanuel Bouju-féle epimodern megközelítés helytállónak bizonyult a szlovák irodalomtól az amerikai irodalomig, a québeci regionalizmus problémáitól a közép-európai disztópikus regényekig, sőt a kulturális-irodalmi tradíciók különbségeinek áthidalását tekintve is, ugyanakkor körvonalazódtak a jövőben folytatandó közös munka irányai.
2023.05.27-én került sor az Epimodern Research Alliance The Epimodern Turn – Workshop c. szintén angol nyelvű műhelyrendezvényre. A sikeres konferencia nyomán az ERA további rendezvények megtartását tervezi. A projekt a kialakított honlapra https://btk.kre.hu/konf/era jó és követendő gyakorlatként tekint, és ennek mintájára saját honlap kialakítását tervezi.

The project supported the realization of the two-day long conference The Epimodern Turn (25-26.05.2023) held in English and with the participation of several internationally renowned figures of contemporary literary studies—Emmanuel Bouju, the leading figure of epimodern approach, Emily Apter, Benjamin Hutchinson, Ian James. The venue was provided by KRE. The 16 national and international speakers came from 8 neighbouring, European, and overseas countries. On the first day, the professional programme was complemented by readings by the French writer, Pierre Senge, and the Hungarian writer and poet, Krisztina Tóth. The number of participants on both days exceeded 50 persons.
The main question asked: Can the same theory be used to define post-postmodern world literature? In the light of the presentations, the epimodern approach of Emmanuel Bouju proved to be valid from Slovak literature to American literature, from the problems of Quebec regionalism to the dystopian novels of Central Europe, and even in bridging the differences between cultural-literary traditions, while at the same time outlining the directions for future joint endeavours.
On 27.05.2023, the Epimodern Research Alliance held a workshop event. It was decided that following this successful conference, further similar events shall be organized. The project website https://btk.kre.hu/konf/era is seen as good practice to be pursued, thus, ERA plans to develop its own website based on this model.
