A magnetoszféra különböző tartományainak mérete és tipikus tulajdonságai gyakran változnak a Napból eredő ion/elektronáram gyors és lassú változásainak következtében. A napszél plazmát a magnetoszférikus plazmától a magnetopauza határfelület választja el, előtte kialakul a fejhullám, ahol a napszél paraméterek hirtelen megváltoznak. Az azonos műszerekkel felszerelt négy Cluster szonda különleges lehetőséget nyújt a Föld plazmakörnyezetének háromdimenziós vizsgálatára. Cluster mérések alapján vizsgáltuk a mirror típusú mágneses tér fluktuációk fejlődését a kvázi-merőleges fejhullám és a magnetopauza közötti tartományban. A fluktuációk amplitudója közel egy nagyságrenddel kisebb mértékben növekedett a lineáris modellekből számított értékhez képest. 50 forró plazmával töltött mágneses üreg (Hot Flow Anomaly) jellemző tulajdonságait tanulmányoztuk a fejhullám előtti tartományban. Megállapítottuk, hogy a gyors napszél kedvezően befolyásolja ezen események kialakulását, mivel a napszél sebessége majdnem minden esetben nagyobb volt az átlagos értéknél. A bolygóközi térben a plazma keveredésének kisléptékű mágneses struktúrákra gyakorolt hatását vizsgáltuk. A Cluster mérések igazolták az elméleti és numerikus modellszámítások alapján várható lepelszerű kétdimenziós struktúrák jelenlétét.
kutatási eredmények (angolul)
The size and characteristic properties of the different regions of the magnetosphere often change as a result of fast and slow changes in the ion/electron flow originating from the Sun. The solar wind plasma is separated from the magnetospheric plasma by the magnetopause boundary surface, in front of which the bow shock forms where solar wind parameters suddenly change. The identically equipped four Cluster satellites provide a unique opportunity for a three-dimensional study of the terrestrial plasma environment. Based on Cluster measurements, the evolution of mirror type magnetic field fluctuations was investigated in the region between the quasi-perpendicular bow shock and the magnetopause. The determined growth rate of the amplitudes was about an order of magnitude smaller than the values predicted by linear model calculations. The characteristic features of 50 hot flow anomalies (magnetic cavities filled by hot plasma) were studied upstream of the bow shock. Fast solar wind was found to favour the evolution of the events since most of them occurrred when the solar wind velocity was above its average value. In the interplanetary field, the effect of plasma mixing was investigated on small-scale magnetic field structures. Cluster measurements supported the existence of sheet-like two-dimensional structures predicted by theoretical models and numerical simulations.
