kutatási eredmények (magyarul)
Főbb kutatási tématerületek: molekulaspektroszkópia, magmozgás és elektronszerkezet számítások, termokémia, szerkezetkutatás, tömeg-, Mössbauer, valamint NMR spektroszkópia. A kifejlesztett főbb algoritmusok: (a) MARVEL (Measured Active Rotational-Vibrational Energy Levels), kísérleti átmenetekből rezgési-forgási energiaszinteket állít elő, (b) DEWE (DVR, Eckart-Watson Hamiltonian, Exact PES), lehetővé teszi az univerzális Watson operátorokkal a tetszőleges PES-ek egzakt használatát, és (c) HEAT (High-Accuracy Ab initio Thermochemistry), pontossága a mérési eredményekét többnyire meghaladja.
Most important research areas: molecular spectroscopy, nuclear motion and electronic structure theory, thermochemistry, structure analysis, mass, Möüssbauer, and NMR spectroscopy. Major algorithms developed: (a) MARVEL (Measured Active Rotational-Vibrational Energy Levels), determines rovibrational energy levels from experimental transitions, (b) DEWE (DVR, Eckart-Watson Hamiltonian, Exact PES), allows use of arbitrary PESs with the universal Watson operators, and (c) HEAT (High-Accuracy Ab initio Thermochemistry), with an accuracy usually better than that of experiments. Fixing the two ends of the proton affinity scale, through ab initio computations on CO and NH3, is important for MS/MS spectroscopy. A new, direction-independent and symmetric definition of the CSA tensor is relevant for NMR spectroscopy, just as its proposed use through multidimensional correlation diagrams during the determination of the secondary structures of proteins. From the large number of results in applied quantum chemistry it is worth mentioning the Nature article from 2008, which describes the synthesis, matrix isolation detection and characterization of the HCOH radical, sought for more than 80 years. This radical exists between large walls but can still rearrange, with a 2-hours half life, to formaldehyde and thus represents an example for observed tunneling under the largest barrier.
