Magyarországon szinte minden jelentősebb későközépkori prédikációs gyűjteményben találkozunk egy-egy dialógusokból építkező, a keresztény üdvtörténet legfontosabb eseményeit (Angyali Üdvözlet, a Passió eseményei) drámaszerűen elbeszélő beszéddel. A műfaj azonban leginkább a nemzeti nyelvű irodalomban terjedt el. Csaknem valamennyi nyelvemlék-kódexünk tartalmaz egy-egy ilyen módon feldolgozott passiót, Mária-siralmat, s ezek azután megtermékenyítették a néphagyományt is, s a legkülönbözőbb népi szövegekben (archaikus imákban, népmesékben, illetve biblikus történetekben) tükröződik hatásuk, s mind a mai napig benne élnek a köztudatban.
The dramatic sermon was one of the most popular and wide-spread literary genre of late-medieval culture. In the Hungarian tradition one can find in almost every sermon-collection texts made of dialogues and dealing with the crucial events of sacred history (as e. g. the Annunciation, elements of the Passion of Christ etc.) in a dramatic manner. The importance of this tradition, however, stands in that particular influence it made upon the vernacular literary texts. Almost every Hungarian manuscripts of the late 15th and early 16th century contain a dramatical Passion narrative or Marian Lament, which later have a considerable impact on folk traditions and their impact is to be found in a wide range of folklore texts, such as prayers, tales or Biblical narratives and their traces are to be felt even in such fields as the recent Passion-movie of Mel Gibson. During the proposed three-year research-period I would like to investigate the roots of this particular literary tradition and by the side of some motifs I would like to reconstruct the thousand-year history of this tradition from the Middle-Eastern, Syriac and Jewish beginnings through Greek, Byzantine and early Latin rhetorical praxis up to the late-medieval Hungarian codices. Beside the fact, that I would like to sketch the outline history of the dramatical sermon-tradition, it is also my proposed aim to find those, in some cases still unknown, sources which stand behind some of our medieval vernacular lirerary documents.

kutatási eredmények (magyarul)
A hároméves kutatási során két alapvető célt tűztem ki. Egyrészt dramatikus jellegű nyelvemlékeink forrásainak feltárását, irodalomtörténeti értékelését, másrészt a dramatikus prédikáció műfajtörténeti hátterének feltérképezését. Fontos előrelépés a Königsbergi Töredék őrzőkódexének feltárása, s a szöveg ennek fényében történő újabb értelmezése, illetve néhány további kisebb nyelvemlék forrásainak, valamint újabb hazai eredetű latin szövegek azonosítása.
My three-year research period had a twofold aim. At the one hand I explored the sources of some undidentified Old Hungarian dramatic texts, and wanted shed some light on the literary background of the genre of the dramatic sermons, at the other. I examined numerous Hungarian as well as Latin sources printed and manuscript as well. First I identified the Hungarian legend of the the martyr St Demetrius, which I dealt with in a separate monograph together with some colleagues. Later I scrutinized the sources of some Hungarian „dramatic” texts, such as the Prophets’ Play, or the Farewell of Christ and the Virgin etc. The results of this research were presented as conference-papers and articles in journals or in the proceedings of the conferences in English as well a sin Hungarian. Another important achievment was the invention of the photo-documentation of the manuscript of the Königsberg Fragment and a re-examination of the text itself, and the literary examination of some other 16th century Hungarian texts. As for the literary background of the genre, my most important result was that I observed a close functional similarit óy between dramatic sermons and apocryphal writings, and a re-evaluation of the concept of apocrypha in the light thereof. I gave some lectures on this subject at different Hungarian and international conferences and I wrote an English article about it which gave me the possibility to take part in an important conference on the apocrypha in Strassbourg 2010.
