magyar összefoglaló
A korszerű kerámiák széleskörű alkalmazása továb bővíthető, ha nemcsak kíváló mechanikai, hanem egyéb jó tulajdonságokkal, mint pl. korrózióállóság, elektromos vezetőképesség, biokompatibiltás is rendelkeznek. Pályázatunkban nanotechnológiai módszerekkel kívánunk újszerű nano-szerkezeteket létrehozni egy „klasszikus” korszerű kerámiában, a szilíciumnitrid alapú kerámiában, illetve rokon kompozitokban. Két eljárást tervezünk. 1.
The advanced ceramics might find a broader application if they have not only outstanding mechanical but also other e.g. corrosion resistance, electrical conductivity, and biocompatible properties too. Nanotechnology allows the incorporation of nano-structural elements into existent “classic” advanced ceramics resulting in “new” materials with changed/improved properties. In this application the synthesis, characterization, and understanding of novel structures in silicon nitride (and related materials), a “classic” family of advanced ceramic materials is planned. Two routes are suggested for the formation of novel structures in Si3N4: 1. Micro-, and nano-scale control of the surface structure of the ceramics (by chemical reaction, ion implantation, laser irradiation, and their combination). 2. Incorporation of micro-, or nano-scale particulates (ceramic whiskers, graphite, carbon black, carbon fiber, carbon nanotubes) into the bulk of the ceramics. For characterization of novel structures XRD, FTIR, field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) and focused ion beam (FIB) nanoshaping will be available. Mechanical, thermo-mechanical, thermal and electrical properties will be determined. The main goals are the following: 1. Deeper knowledge of the interaction of ceramic matrix with different nano additives. 2. Interpretation of measured data in the light of existent interpercolation models for tayloring ceramics performance.

The aim of the project was to contribute to the basic knowledge necessary to the development of ceramic composites withstanding to complex hits. The examined composites contained silicon nitride as matrix and one of the modifications of carbon as additive. The finishing step of processing was gas pressure sintering (GPS), hot isostatic pressing (HIP) or spark plasma sintering (SPS). The structure was studied by electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction, mechanical properties, specific electrical conductivity and some thermal characteristics were determined. The main features of the behavior of studied composites can be explained by supposing that the interaction between the ceramic particles and carbon nanotubes, or carbon black, or graphite is weak. In this case the modulus of elasticity is depends only on the density, and the electrical conductivity is controlled by the shape of the space between the ceramic particles. On the other hand, attractive force occurred between the ceramic particles and exfoliated graphite sheets, consequently the wear of this composites is weaker, its conductivity is smaller than that of materials containing the other carbonaceous modifications.
