magyar összefoglaló
A rádió-interferometria napjaink egyik legperspektivikusabb csillagászati megfigyelési technikája. Korábban a nagyon hosszú bázisvonalú interferometriás (VLBI) mérések a legfényesebb aktív galaxismagokra (AGN) összpontosítottak, mivel ezek jól detektálhatók a légköri koherenciaidőn belül. A halvány források megfigyelését biztosító ún. fázisviszonyításos módszert a következő generációs űr-VLBI mesterséges hold, a japán ASTRO-G (start: 2012) esetében is alkalmazni fogják.
A projekt keretében folytatni szeretnénk a halvány, optikailag azonosított extragalaktikus rádióforrások VLBI felmérését. Részt vállalunk halvány optikai standard mezők megmérésében, a jelenleg elérhetőnél nagyobb pontossággal hozzákötve az ottani AGN-ek pozícióját a VLBI technikával definiált égi vonatkoztatási rendszerhez. Tanulmányozzuk a jelenleg ismert legtávolabbi rádiósugárzó kvazárokat, ezred-ívmásodperces szögfelbontással. Kidolgozzuk a fázisviszonyításos eljárás űr-VLBI alkalmazásának egyes elemeit. Felkészülünk arra, hogy az ASTRO-G űrcsillagászati program számára versenyképes kutatási javaslatokat állítsunk össze.
A három résztvevő a kutatási terület szakértője. Rendszeresen sikeresen pályázunk megfigyelési időért európai és amerikai rádióinterferométer-hálózatokhoz. A projekt futamideje alatt szeretnénk hazai fiatal egyetemi hallgatók érdeklődését is felkelteni a téma iránt.
angol összefoglaló
Radio interferometry is one of the most perspective astronomical observing techniques nowadays. In the past, Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) observations concentrated on the bright compact extragalactic radio sources (active galactic nuclei, AGNs) that can be detected with sufficient signal-to-noise ratio within the atmospheric coherence time. Our present astrophysical knowledge of radio-loud AGNs, as well as the definition of our current most accurate celestial reference frame is largely based on these bright extragalactic objects. The rapid technical advances (the increase in sensitivity and observing time available) open up the possibility to target fainter source populations. This allows us to collect data on much larger samples, and to study e.g. cosmological evolution of object classes; morphology of fainter sources compared to that of the bright ones; the imprint of the cosmological model on the source structure as a function of redshift; the possibility of local and global densifications, and accuracy improvement of the celestial reference frame. The technique of phase-referencing which allows milli-arcsecond resolution imaging of weaker radio AGNs by extending the signal coherence time will also be used for the next-generation Japanese Space VLBI satellite ASTRO-G (expected launch year: 2012).
We intend to continue our Deep Extragalactic VLBI-Optical Survey. We take part in establishing Deep Astrometric Standards by linking optically identified AGNs to the International Celestial Reference Frame defined in the radio. We will study the high-resolution structure of the most distant radio AGNs known. We will explore the possibilities of Space VLBI phase-referencing, and work out competitive scientific proposals for the ASTRO-G mission. The three participants are experts in this field. We regularly successfully apply for observing time at the European and the US interferometer networks. We want to attract young students to work in this field.

A nagyon hosszú bázisvonalú interferométeres (VLBI) megfigyelési módszer extragalaktikus asztrofizikai és asztrometriai alkalmazásaival foglalkoztunk. A legfinomabb felbontással tanulmányoztuk a ma ismert két legtávolabbi rádiókvazár szerkezetét. A jelenséget a Tejútrendszer látóirányba eső csillagközi anyagában fellépő szcintilláció okozhatja. Felfedeztük, hogy az optikai emissziós színképvonalai alapján kettősnek sejtett J1425+3231 kvazár valóban két kompakt rádióforrásból áll. Sikerült relativisztikus jet jelenlétére utaló tágulást felismerni egy Ic típusú szupernóvában (SN 2007gr). Az égi vonatkoztatási rendszert kijelölő aktív galaxismagok igen kis látszó sajátmozgásait összefüggésbe hoztuk ezred-ívmásodperces rádiószerkezetükkel. Rádió és optikai tartományban mért koordinátáik összefüggését vizsgálva a vártnál több jelentős pozíciós eltérést találtunk. A készülő nemzetközi űr-VLBI programok számára új kalibrátor rádióforrásokat és halvány potenciális célpontokat kerestünk. Bekapcsolódtunk egy kísérleti javaslat kidolgozásába, amelynek célja egy a Jupiter környezetébe küldendő űrszonda navigációjának pontosítása a kvazárok jelentette égi háttér és a VLBI technika segítségével.
kutatási eredmények (angolul)
We applied Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) for studies in extragalactic astrophysics and astrometry. We revealed the radio structure of the two most distant radio quasars known at present, with the finest angular resolution. The quasar J1427+3312 (redshift z=6.12) is resolved into two components, and is probably a very young object. We also studied other high-redshift (z>3) quasars, and various peculiar active galactic nuclei, including those with intra-day flux-density variability. This effect is caused by the scintillation in the Galactic interstellar clouds in the line of sight. We found that J1425+3231, a dual active galactic nucleus suspected from its double-peaked narrow optical emission lines, is indeed composed of two compact radio sources. A mildly relativistic radio jet was inferred in the Type Ic Supernova 2007gr. We studied the connection between the tiny apparent proper motions and the milliarcsecond-scale VLBI structures of compact radio sources that define the celestial reference frame. By comparing the radio and optical coordinates of a large sample of radio reference frame sources, we found a significant number of positional outliers. For future international Space VLBI missions, we selected new potential calibrator and weak target objects. We took part in an experiment proposal with the aim of the precise VLBI navigation of prospective spacecraft sent to Jupiter, using the compact extragalactic radio sources in the background.
