A kutatás összefoglalója, célkitűzései szakemberek számára
Itt írja le a kutatás fő célkitűzéseit a témában jártas szakember számára.

A projekt célja új modell-analízis, identifikációs és szabályozótervezési eljárások kifejlesztése nemlineáris dinamikus rendszerekhez a kvázipolinomiális (QP) és determinisztikus kinetikus rendszerek speciális algebrai tulajdonságainak felhasználásával. Az optimalizációs módszereket fontos eszközként kívánjuk alkalmazni a felmerülő komplex algebrai feladatok megoldására. A vizsgált problémaosztályok a következők:
1. Alapvető problémák polinomiális rendszerek analízisében és szintézisében: QP rendszerek polinomiális realizációinak kiszámítása, adott polinomiális dinamikát megvalósító reakciókinetikai hálózatok szintézise a komplexek célzott megválasztásával, komplex dinamikus viselkedés strukturális és parametrikus feltételeinek meghatározása kinetikus rendszereknél.
2. QP és kinetikus rendszerek identifikációja: QP-modellek strukturális identifikálhatósági feltételeinek meghatározása, a QP rendszerek speciális algebrai szerkezetének kihasználása nemlineáris modellek identifikációjában, állapotfüggő idő-átskálázás felhasználása QP és kinetikus modellek identifikációjában.
3.Szabályozótervezés polinomiális rendszerekhez: robusztus szabályozótervezés kinetikus modellek strukturális stabilitási kritériumainak felhasználásával, QP-modellek modell-prediktív irányítása logaritmikus költségfüggvénnyel, QP és kinetikus rendszerek energia-alapú szabályozása.
A kifejlesztett eljárásokat két fő alkalmazási területen kívánjuk szemléltetni: biológiai rendszereket leíró modelleken, illetve energetikai rendszerek vegyes (elektromos, mechanikai és termodinamikai) modelljein.

Mi a kutatás alapkérdése?

A kifejlesztett hatékony számítási eljárások a tanulmányozott, igen jó leíróképességű rendszerosztályok nemlineáris rendszer- és irányításelméletbe való mélyebb integrációját teszik várhatóan lehetővé.

Mi a kutatás jelentősége?

A várt eredmények hozzájárulhatnak a nemlineáris rendszerek általános termodinamikai nézőpontjának kialakításához. A kinetikus rendszerek strukturális analízisének eredményei segíthetnek a természetes rendszerekben jelenlévő redundancia-alapú robusztusság jobb megértéséhez. A tervezett kutatás további lehetséges alkalmazási lehetőségei a következők: reakcióutak analízise és szintézise a biokémiai iparban, célzott gyógyszertervezés ill. kezelési módszerek kifejlesztése a gyógyszeriparban. Energetikai és folyamatrendszerek esetén a tervezett projekt várhatóan hasznos eredményeket hoz a paraméterbecslés és a szabályozótervezés területén.

A kutatás összefoglalója, célkitűzései laikusok számára
Ebben a fejezetben írja le a kutatás fő célkitűzéseit alapműveltséggel rendelkező laikusok számára.

A biológiai modellekkel kapcsolatos eredmények várhatóan hasznosak lesznek pl. a célzott gyógyszertervezésben ill. új orvosi kezelési módszerek fejlesztésében.
Summary
Summary of the research and its aims for experts
Describe the major aims of the research for experts.

The overall aim of the project is to develop model analysis, identification and controller design methods for nonlinear dynamical systems using the special advantageous algebraic structures of two related system classes with good descriptive power: quasi-polynomial (QP) systems and deterministic kinetic systems. Optimization methods will be used as tools of key importance for the solution of the emerging algebraically complex problems.
The following scientific challenges will be investigated:
1. Fundamental problems in the analysis and synthesis of polynomial systems: constructing specific polynomial realizations of QP systems, algorithmic synthesis of chemical reaction networks corresponding to a given polynomial dynamics with targeted selection of complexes, determining structural and parametric conditions of complex dynamical behaviour in kinetic systems.
2. Identification of QP and kinetic systems: determining structural identifiability conditions of QP models, utilization of the algebraic structure of QP models in the identification of general nonlinear models, using state dependent time-rescaling in the parameter estimation of QP and kinetic models.
3. Controller synthesis for polynomial systems: stabilizing feedback design using the robust stability criteria of chemical reaction network theory, model predictive control of QP systems using logarithmic cost functions, energy based control of QP and kinetic systems.
The developed methods will be illustrated on two application areas: dynamic models describing biological systems, and mixed (electrical, mechanical and thermodynamical) models of energetic systems.

What is the major research question?
Describe here briefly the problem to be solved by the research, the starting hypothesis, and the questions addressed by the experiments.

The fundamental problem of the planned research is how to efficiently utilize the special algebraic and structural properties of two strongly related system classes, namely quasi-polynomial (QP) and kinetic systems, for the analysis, identification and control of polynomial nonlinear dynamical systems. Our working hypothesis is the following: the fulfillment of the studied or required system properties can be traced back to the solution of optimization problems. A developed efficient methods are expected to support the deeper integration of the studied system classes into nonlinear systems and control theory.

What is the significance of the research?
Describe the new perspectives opened by the results achieved, including the scientific basics of potential societal applications. Please describe the unique strengths of your proposal in comparison to your domestic and international competitors in the given field.

The expected results can contribute to form a general kinetic/thermodynamical point of view on nonlinear systems, especially on nonnegative systems. The results corresponding to the structure analysis of kinetic systems might help understanding redundancy based robustness in natural systems. On the practical level, robust and computationally effective methods are expected for the analysis, control and identification of nonlinear systems that can be applied for real experiments in the application fields of biological and energetic systems. Possible further applications of the expected research results are analysis and synthesis of reaction paths in the (bio)chemical industry, targeted drug design or developing treatment methods i.e. computing appropriate inputs for certain medical conditions using the obtained dynamical models and analysis results in the framework of nonlinear control theory. In the field of energetic and process systems, the results of the planned project are expected to be useful in practical parameter estimation and in the design of robust nonlinear controllers.

Summary and aims of the research for the public
Describe here the major aims of the research for an audience with average background information. This summary is especially important for NRDI Office in order to inform decision-makers, media, and others.

The project aims at the development of new methods for the deeper understanding of complex phenomena in natural and engineering systems. This goal is to be achieved by the special mathematical description of the studied systems. Using the characteristic properties of the studied strongly related model classes, we would like to develop efficient methods for the analysis of important properties such as stability, and for the solution of modeling and control problems. The project also targets the advanced control of the studied biological and energetic systems that can save time, energy and other important resources. Some of the planned results are expected to be useful in targeted drug design or developing treatment methods in medicine.

Pályázatunkban optimalizálás alapú számítási módszereket fejlesztettünk ki és alkalmaztunk polinomiális alakban megadott nemlineáris dinamikus rendszermodellek analízisére és irányítására, különös tekintettel a pl. biokémiában nagy jelentőséggel bíró nemnegatív rendszerek osztályára. Módszereinkben kihasználtuk a rendszermodellekhez rendelhető irányított gráfok és a működés jellemzői közötti kapcsolatokat. Legfontosabb eredményeink: 1) Alapvető problémák megoldása polinomiális rendszerek analízisében és szintézisében: Számítási módszereket adtunk kinetikus rendszermodellekhez tartozó előnyös tulajdonságokkal (pl. minimális vagy nulla deficienciával) rendelkező irányított gráfszerkezetek meghatározására. Módszert adtunk kinetikus rendszermodellekhez tartozó összes lehetséges gráfszerkezet meghatározására. 2) Kinetikus és kvázipolinom rendszerek identifikációja és identifikálhatósága: Kedvező számítási tulajdonságokkal rendelkező módszereket adtunk nemnegatív rendszermodellek struktúrájának és paramétereinek meghatározásához. 3) Szabályozótervezés polinomiális rendszerekhez: Optimalizáción alapuló biokémiai motiváltságú megoldást adtunk paraméterbizonytalanságot tartalmazó nemlineáris rendszerek stabilizáló szabályozótervezéséhez, ahol a zárt rendszerhez tartozó gráfszerkezetet és a szabályozó paraméterei egy lépésben számolhatók.
Results in English
In the framework of the project, we have developed and applied optimization-based methods for the analysis and control of nonlinear dynamical system models given in polynomial form, particularly for nonnegative systems which have significance e.g. in biochemistry. We have exploited the relations between the system operation and the directed graphs corresponding to the models. Most important results: 1) Solving fundamental problems in the analysis and synthesis of polynomial systems: We have given methods for the computation of directed graph structures having advantageous properties (e.g. minimal or zero deficiency) corresponding to kinetic system models. We have given a method for computing all possible graph structures for kinetic models. 2) Identification and identifiability of quasi-polinomial and kinetic systems: We have developed methods with advantageous computational properties for determining the structures and parameters of nonnegative system models. 3) Controller synthesis for nonnegative polynomial systems: We have given an optimization-based biochemically motivated solution for the design of stabilizing controllers for nonlinear systems, where the graph structure of the closed loop system and the controller parameters can be computed in one step.
