A kutatás összefoglalója, célkitűzései szakemberek számára
Itt írja le a kutatás fő célkitűzéseit a témában jártas szakember számára.

A nagy elméleti kihívást a kontinuum mechanikának a kinetikus gázelmélettel történő összehangolása jelenti.

Mi a kutatás alapkérdése?

Mi a kutatás jelentősége?

Modern elektronikai eszközök teljesítményének növelésekor sokszor a hőelvonás megoldatlansága jelent korlátot, amelyet csökkenthetünk jobb hővezető képességű nem Newtoni folyadékok (paszták) alkalmazásával. A hővezetőképesség növelésére ígéretesek a nanoszuszpenziók. A jobb hűtés jelentősen megnövelheti akár a meglevő eszközeink teljesítményét is.

Legtöbbször a szuperkritikus állapotbeli tulajdonságoknak megfelelően szabott technológiai környezet biztosítása jelent kihívást. (szuperkritikus erőmű, széndioxid tárolás, stb.). A heterogén szuperkritikus tartományban lejátszódó pszeudó állapotváltozások jó leírása megnyitná az utat a hőerőművek hatásfokának megnövelése előtt.

Az elemi kén nagyhőmérsékletű, nagynyomású gázfázisa lényegében annak nyolc módosulatának (C1-C8) keverékéből áll. A keverékek effektív leírása modellezési előny. Az összetételének termikusan megfelelő beállításával, új hőhordozó közegként például a koncentrátoros naperőművek válhatnának sokkal kifizetődőbbé.

A kutatás összefoglalója, célkitűzései laikusok számára
Ebben a fejezetben írja le a kutatás fő célkitűzéseit alapműveltséggel rendelkező laikusok számára.

Summary
Summary of the research and its aims for experts
Describe the major aims of the research for experts.

The need for more powerful and more efficient thermal systems requires the application and development of heat transfer media with extended working conditions: first of all, very high or very low temperatures and pressures. The aim of our proposed research is the theoretical and experimental investigation of heat transfer in case of extreme working media and extreme systems.
From a theoretical point of view, the key aspect is to go beyond local equilibrium, which requires the generalization of the Fourier theory of heat conduction for nonlocal non-equilibrium media and systems. These kinds of generalization result in a coupling of mechanical and thermal effects at several levels, not only in the form of thermal stress or viscous dissipation, but also e.g. for ballistic heat transport. The theoretical challenge of the extension is the unification of the kinetic theory of gases and continuum mechanics (of fluids and solids). Extreme conditions are the best possibilities to validate the theoretical constructions.

We focus our investigations on three such extreme media, based on our previous research experience. Thermal and mechanical properties of supercritical fluids, heterogeneous heat conducting gels (micro and nanosuspensions) and mixtures of chemical species of sulphure. These media are technologically important and modelling these materials and understanding of their properties may require the extension of classical theories.

What is the major research question?
Describe here briefly the problem to be solved by the research, the starting hypothesis, and the questions addressed by the experiments.

The ballistic-wave like-diffusive heat propagation was observed in solid He and in low-temperature NaF and Bi. This phenomenon shows a special coupling of mechanical and thermal effects. The detection of ballistic-wave like-diffusive propagation of heat was possible only by the suppression of dissipative effects. Thus the key of the observation of non-Fourier effects is not looking for the well-known Maxwell-Cattaneo-Vernotte equation, but the mechanical coupling. The theory of non-equilibrium thermodynamics is not restricted to low temperatures, and indicates the possibility of such effects in heterogeneous media, and extends the role of mechanics in heat transfer.
If we want of observe wave-like heat propagation at room temperature, we should identify the corresponding mechanisms of heat transfer (phonons produce only diffusive propagation) and find a method to suppress the non-Fourier type dissipative effects.

Hence, we need to find experimental conditions and materials where heat conduction beyond Fourier may be demonstrated convincingly. Small sizes and material heterogeneity may be important. In our theoretical investigations, we need to solve the paradoxes that burden the clear understanding of the extensions of the Fourier-Navier-Stokes theory (the simplest mechanical-thermal coupling): why is material objectivity seemingly violated? What is the role of the various different velocity fields in the NS theory?

In the chosen systems and media, the experimental observations cannot be properly modelled by the conventional theoretical approaches, while they are important from a practical point of view, and we have a considerable related research experience.

What is the significance of the research?
Describe the new perspectives opened by the results achieved, including the scientific basics of potential societal applications. Please describe the unique strengths of your proposal in comparison to your domestic and international competitors in the given field.

The key aspect of the applicability of fundamental scientific results is the coherence of theoretical knowledge and sensitivity to practical problems, the connection of engineering practice to the clarified uniform background knowledge (theory). Our proposed research is related to the most fundamental questions of continuum physics, and tests the answers with important technological applications.

One of these basic questions is the material frame indifference of extended heat conduction equations. Probably due to this property, the momentum series expansion of the kinetic theory of gases is not applicable to obtain consistent generalizations of the Fourier-Navier-Stokes theory. The frame independent and relativistically tested extension of the thermodynamic theory may solve this problem, opening the way toward higher order applicable continuum theories. According to the universal effective theory of non-equilibrium thermodynamics, we may test the validity of the generalized theory on media that show material heterogeneity. Therefore, hopefully the general theory can be tested directly on the following technological problems from several points of view:

1) In order to increase the power of modern electronic devices, the absorption of the produced heat is the technological limit. This heat may be reduced, in many cases, by applying better heat conducting non-Newtonian fluids. Nanosuspensions are very promising to increase heat conductivity. Such a kind of improved cooling may boost the speed of existing computers, too.

2) The key element of high-pressure high-temperature systems is the working medium. The technological environment designed for a fluid in supercritical state (supercritical power station, storage of carbon dioxid) is the most important challenge. A good description of pseudo phase transitions in heterogenic supercritical region of the phase space may open the way of increasing the efficiency of power stations.

3) The gas phase of elementary sulphure is the mixture of 8 chemical species (C1-C8). An effective theory of mixtures is an advantage for modelling purposes. Gaseous sulphur may be an ideal working medium for CSP (Concentrated Solar Power) systems.

Summary and aims of the research for the public
Describe here the major aims of the research for an audience with average background information. This summary is especially important for NRDI Office in order to inform decision-makers, media, and others.

The need for more powerful and more efficient thermal systems requires the application and development of heat transfer media with extended working conditions: first of all, very high or very low temperatures and pressures. The aim of our proposed research is the theoretical and experimental investigation of heat transfer in case of extreme working media and extreme systems.

We have chosen three focus areas. Suspensions increasing the heat absorption from modern electronic devices, the thermal properties of the supercritical state of water, and the mixture of chemical species in gaseous sulphur are important in technology while they cannot be described well with conventional theories. By increasing the heat absorption, electronic devices may be improved, the knowledge of supercritical state is one of the key aspects to increase the efficiency of power stations, and with sulphur working media the rate of return of concentrated solar power systems may be increased.

The recent novel theoretical developments of non-equilibrium thermodynamics provide a common universal theoretical framework to explain these phenomena. The validity of this framework has already been tested from ultralow temperature solid helium up to relativistic quark-gluon plasma. We want to apply this theoretical background on the above mentioned problems with practical importance.
