magyar összefoglaló
A kutatás összefoglalója, célkitűzései szakemberek számára
Itt írja le a kutatás fő célkitűzéseit a témában jártas szakember számára.

A kutatás fő célja olyan megújuló nyersanyagforrásból előállítható és/vagy újrahasznosítható szálerősített polimer rendszerek előállítása és vizsgálata, melyek mind mechanikai, mind biztonsági (éghetőségi) szempontból megfelelő alternatívát kínálnak a repülő- és járműiparban jelenleg fémből gyártott alkatrészek kiváltására. A gépjárműipar továbbfejlődésének az egyik alapfeltétele az új anyagok alkalmazásában rejlik. A káros üzemanyag kibocsájtás csökkentése súlycsökkentéssel, a megújuló nyersanyagforrások használatának bővülése biokompozitok alkalmazásával, az életciklus tervezés újrahasznosítással, a biztonság növelése pedig égésgátló anyagok felhasználásával segíthető elő. A természetes szálerősítés sok esetben környezetbarát alternatívát jelenthet a jelenleg alkalmazott szén- illetve üvegszál kiváltására kisebb igénybevételnek kitett alkatrészek esetén. Gazdaságosságuk nem csak a lényegesen olcsóbb előállításukban rejlik, hanem sokkal kevésbé koptató hatásúak a mesterséges szálaknál, azonban éghetőségük hátráltatja széleskörű elterjedésüket. A pályázat alapját képező közleményben leírt, kenderszövet erősítésű epoxigyanta kompozitok esetében felfedezett szinergetikus hatás további vizsgálata a cél, mely során további, hőre lágyuló és hőre keményedő mátrixok alkalmazásával szeretnénk a szerkezet–hatás összefüggést felderíteni.

Mi a kutatás alapkérdése?

Mi a kutatás jelentősége?

A kutatás összefoglalója, célkitűzései laikusok számára
Ebben a fejezetben írja le a kutatás fő célkitűzéseit alapműveltséggel rendelkező laikusok számára.

Summary of the research and its aims for experts
Describe the major aims of the research for experts.

The aim of the present research is the preparation and detailed investigation of fibre-reinforced (recyclable) polymer systems derived from renewable resources, which can represent a suitable alternative to the currently applied metal parts, satisfying both the mechanical and flame retardant requirements of the aircraft and transportation industries. The main requirement for the further development of the automotive industry lies in the application of new materials. The reduction of the harmful emissions can be promoted by weight loss, as well as the expansion of the application of renewable resources by the use of biocomposites. The design for life-cycle can be enhanced by recycling, while the increase of safety by the application of flame retardants. The use of natural fibre reinforcement represents a suitable alternative to the currently applied glass- and carbon fibre reinforcements in case of parts exposed to less stress. Their use is economical, as their production is less costly than the man-made fibres’, and also they are less abrasive, however, their wide spread application is hindered by their flammability. Our aim is to further investigate the recently discovered synergistic phenomenon in the case of hemp fabric reinforced epoxy resin composites, described in the article on which the present project is based. In course of the research, further thermoplastic and thermosetting matrices will be investigated in order to clarify the structure–effect correlations.

What is the major research question?
Describe here briefly the problem to be solved by the research, the starting hypothesis, and the questions addressed by the experiments.

A new synergistic phenomenon was discovered in our previous research: when both the matrix and the reinforcing natural fibres contained phosphorus, besides the self-extinction (V-0 rating) of the samples, the mechanical properties also reach the level of the reference composite, despite the decrease of the mechanical properties of both the fibres and the matrix material compared to the reference materials. In course of the present research we plan to more deeply understand this phenomenon. For this purpose, the so far applied and the newly synthesized flame retardant compounds will be tested in further matrix materials. Considering the established structure–effect correlations based on the results, we will be able to propose suitable flame retardant additives and fibre-treatment methods for different polymer systems.

What is the significance of the research?
Describe the new perspectives opened by the results achieved, including the scientific basics of potential societal applications. Please describe the unique strengths of your proposal in comparison to your domestic and international competitors in the given field.

The results of the present research can lead to further weight loss of the aircrafts or vehicles, thus decreasing the harmful emissions. The use of polymeric parts can lead to increased fire hazard, which can be eliminated by the elaboration of suitable flame retardancy. In this case the optimum between the flame retardant and mechanical properties has to be find. A generally applicable flame retardancy guideline will be elaborated based on the correlations specified from the results of the detailed investigation of the tested compositions. The advantage of the present application compared to other international research groups is the infrastructure ranging from the practice in organic chemical syntheses, to a wide range of analytical and materials testing equipment, all in one place, leading to fast feedback between the project tasks.

Summary and aims of the research for the public
Describe here the major aims of the research for an audience with average background information. This summary is especially important for NRDI Office in order to inform decision-makers, media, and others.

With the decline in oil reserves, there is an increasing need for the development of plastic materials that can be produced from renewable resources, which are reproduced within a few years. The aircraft and transportation industries apply parts produced from plastic materials instead of metals in increasing amounts. This phenomenon, in one hand, leads to the weight loss of the vehicles, thus to the decrease of the fuel consumption and the harmful emissions, while on the other hand, the flammability of the plastics represents a significant fire hazard. To overcome this fact, the elaboration of such combination of materials, which can be safely applied both in terms of strength and fire safety, and is recyclable at the end of its life cycle, is necessary. In course of the present research we will elaborate the flame retardancy of such plastic materials, which are derived from renewable resources, degradable or recyclable, and which are mechanically also suitable to be a part of a vehicle or an aircraft.

kutatási eredmények (magyarul)
A szálerősítésű égésgátolt polimer rendszereket, mint értéknövelt “zöld” kompozitokat megújuló erőforrások/újrahasznosítható komponensek felhasználásával állítottuk elő. A poli(butilén-szukcinát) esetén ammónium-polifoszfát (APP) és 9-oxa-10-foszfenantrén-10-oxid alapú adalékok alkalmazása > 40 V/V% LOI (az égés minimális O2 szükséglete) értékeket eredményezett. A szorbit alapú bioepoxigyantákban kisebb mennyiségű égésgátlóra volt szükség rövidebb láncú alifás P-észterrel, ami a befolyásolja dinamikus mechanikai tulajdonságokat is. Még a teljesen vízbázisú bioepoxi rendszerben is sikerült önkioltó viselkedést elérni 3% P tartalommal. Az alumínium-trisz-(dietil-foszfinát) égésgátló anyaghoz azonban melamin-cianurát adalékolása volt szükséges a jó szenesítő hatékonysághoz. A szénszálas szálerősítés szén nanocsövekkel kombinálva elektromos vezetőképességet, és önkioltó (V-0) besorolást eredményezett alacsony hőkibocsátási maximum mellett (pHRR: 130 kW/m2) égésgátolt epoxiban. Bioszövet (juta, kender és len) erősítőanyag alkalmazása esetén a teljes hőleadás 30%-kal csökkent. A poli(tejsav) mátrixban égésgátlási célból először alkalmaztunk ciklodextrin (CD) mikroszálakat. A többfunkciós (erősítő és égésgátló) bioszálak kialakítása érdekében felületmódosítást alkalmaztunk egy újonnan kifejlesztett vegyülettel. Könnyű PLA habok előállítása szigorú kontrollt igényelt, amihez in-line analitikai (spektroszkópiai és gépi látási) módszereken alapuló eljárást dolgoztunk ki.
kutatási eredmények (angolul)
Fibre-reinforced flame retarded polymer systems as value-added green composites were prepared using renewable resources /recyclable components. In poly (butylene-succinate) the use of ammonium polyphosphate (APP) and 9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide based additives resulted in > 40 V/V% LOI values (minimal O2 concentration of burning). In sorbitol-based bioepoxy resins lower amount of flame retardant was needed with shorter-chain aliphatic P-ester, which influences the dynamic mechanical properties too. Even in fully water-borne bioepoxy system self-extinguishing behaviour was achieved at 3%P content. Aluminum tris-(diethylphosphinate) flame retardant required, however, melamine-cyanurate for good charring efficiency. Fibre reinforcement with carbon fibre combined with conductive carbon nanotubes resulted in electrical conductivity and self-extinguishing (V-0) rating with low peak heat release rate (pHRR: 130 kW/m2) in flame-retarded epoxy. In the case of reinforcement with biofabrics (jute, hemp and linen), the total heat release was reduced by 30%. In poly(lactic acid) cyclodextrin (CD) microfibers have been firstly applied for the purpose of flame retardancy. In order to form multifunctional (reinforcing and flame retardant) biofibres surface modification with a newly developed compound was applied. Formation of light-weight PLA foams required severe control developed on basis of in-line analytical (spectroscopic and machine vision) methods.
