Results in English
The main objective of my project was to understand the rise and the evolution of diverse parental care behaviour among vertebrates, with its causes and consequences. The NKFIH-funded 4-years research significantly contributed to the achievement of these goals: we now can give novel and substantial answers to practically each of our original research questions. Moreover, we built an unparalleled database of the parental care of each vertebrate class and related life history variables. Our new comprehensive brain size database is significant in its own right. These can provide further base for follow-up studies on the evolution of sex roles, cognition or physiology. The project gave a significant boost for the scientific career of the leading researcher, started new scientific collaborations among the University of Debrecen and other research groups or continued existing ones, and significantly contributed to higher education via the participating undergraduate and PhD students and to science popularization.
