Az első országos reprezentatív növekedésvizsgálat eredményei alapul szolgálnak a további magyarországi epidemiológiai, auxológia összehasonlító vizsgálatok elvégzéséhez. Míg Körmendi Növekdésvizsgálat sorozat eredményei alapján a növekedés és érés pozitív szekuláris változása kimutatható e régióban élő gyermekek körében, addig az érdi utánvizsgálatok a hosszméretek és a nemi érés pozitív irányú változását nem igazolták. Ugyanakkor a testtömeg szekuláris növekedése a túlsúlyos és az obez gyerekek és ifjak előfordulási gyakoriságának emelkedéséhez vezetett. Regionális vizsgálataink megerősítették, hogy a szocio-ökonómiai tényezők közül a szülők iskolai végzettsége az egyik legfontosabb befolyásoló tényező, nemcsak a növekedés és az érés folyamatát, de a túlsúlyosság és a kövérség kialakulásában is jelentős szerepe van. Vizsgálati eredményeink azt igazolták, hogy a túltápláltság a negatív önértékelést, a jól-lét érzést, a mentális egészségi státust rontja, valamint a pszicho-szomatikus panaszok gyakoriságát növeli pubertáskorban. Mindezek az eredmények felhívják a figyelmet a növekedésvizsgálatok jelentőségére, a nem harmonikus egyedfejlődés pedagógiai, mentál-egészségi és szociálpolitikai vonatkozásaira.

The results of the first representative Hungarian National Growth Study give the realistic basis to further epidemiological auxological comparative investigations in Hungary. The Körmend Growth Study series documented presence of positive secular trend in growth and maturation in Hungarian youth till turn of the Millennium, while the Érd Growth Study series revealed that the secular changes in the length body measurements and the sexual maturation pattern stopped in the 1990’s. At the same time the positive trend in the body mass of children has continued. It is the reason for the increasing prevalence of childhood and pubertal overweight and obesity. Our regional growth studies confirmed that the educational level of the parents is the most important one out of the socio-economic factors influencing not only the growth and maturation process, but also development of obesity in children and youth. Our results proved that excess fat contributes markedly to an accumulation of negative scores in self-concept, impairs well-being feeling and mental-health status, as well as increases the prevalence of psycho-somatic problems in puberty. These results call attention to the pedagogical, mental- and health prevention, socio-political, science-political, etc. aspects of growth process, especially in prepuberty and puberty.
