A kutatás tárgya, célkitűzése a visszaeső bűnözés struktúrájának vizsgálata, ezen belül • a bűncselekmény sorozatok homogenitásának és veszélyességének mérése • a büntető eljárás időtartamának vizsgálata.

The aim of this research is to investigate the structure of the recidivism such as  Measuring the homogeneity and social danger of crime series.  Observing the duration of penal procedure. The official statistics on criminals detect delinquency yearly, but it does not hold information about the „criminal careers”. This resulted in a need for resource where all the previous crimes and their court sentences of recidivists can be found. Ordering all the crimes in different groups an investigation was made whether there is a dominant crime in the series or they are completely inhomogeneous. A special index was defined and the homogeneity of crime series was measured by this index. The social danger of crime careers was evaluated by the combinative comparison of the crimes and the punishments meted out. The reason for measuring the penal procedure is that there is no acquisition on the total length of a penal procedure while there is a solid opinion of criminal scientists that the most efficient retention is the quick and effective penal procedure. This type of investigation is possible only through the register of criminal records, because it contains the dates of both the crimes and the definitive sentence imposed. Some of the above questions could be answered by comparing the complete database with previous data, but the detailed survey is based on samples of 1500 and 1989 persons.
