A gravitációs hullámok egyik legjelentősebb forrása két egymás körül keringő nagy tömegű test. A kettős rendszerek mozgásának és az általuk keltett gravitációs sugárzás tanulmányozását a post-newtoni formalizmusnak a keretein belül végeztük. Vizsgáltuk a testek véges kiterjedéséből származó effektusok hatását a testek forgásának, a kvadrupól-momentumának figyelembevételével. Egyik fontos eredményünk a spinek önkölcsönhatásából származó járulékok kiszámítása. Ezen új járulékok pl. az egyik újonnan fölfedezett kettős-pulzár esetében fontosak. A gravitációs sugárzás vizsgálatát kiterjesztettük a mérhető jelalakok és elméleti hullámforma jóslatok megadásával. Excentrikus pályán mozgó kettős rendszereket vizsgáltunk. Megadtuk a keletkező gravitációs hullámok polarizációs állapotait. A Newman-Penrose formalizmus segítségével töltött, forgó fekete lyukak esetén megvizsgáltuk az elektromágneses és gravitációs perturbációk viselkedését. Meghatároztuk a sík, porral töltött Friedmann–Robertson–Walker univerzum lineáris perturbációit és megvizsgáltuk a mikrohullámú háttérsugárzás hőmérsékletfluktuációinak viselkedését. Megadtuk az ún. Sachs-Wolfe tag időfüggését. Meghatároztuk a késői integrális Sachs–Wolfe effektus teljesítmény-spektrumát. A kapott spektrum nagyon jó egyezést mutat korábbi munkák numerikusan származtatott eredményeivel. Egy új típusú, stabil kozmológiai megoldását találtuk az Einstein–Yang–Mills–Higgs egyenleteknek.

One of the most significant sources of gravitational radiation is a binary system composed of compact stars. With the use of the post-Newtonian formalism we have investigated the orbital motion and the emitted gravitational waves of these binaries. We have discussed the finite size effects of the bodies, i.e. the effects of rotation and quadrupole moments. An important result is the calculation of the self interaction spin terms. These contributions are significant e.g. in the case of the recently discovered double pulsar. We have extended our calculations with the description of the theoretical waveform templates. We have discussed the polarization states of the emitted gravitational waves for compact binaries moving on eccentric orbits. In the Newman-Penrose formalism we have investigated the coupled gravitational and electromagnetic perturbations of a charged, rotating black hole. We have computed the linear perturbations of a flat, Friedmann–Robertson–Walker universe filled with dust, and determined the temperature fluctuations of the microwave background radiation in the presence of a cosmological constant. The time dependence of the Sachs-Wolfe term and the power spectrum of the late integrated Sachs-Wolfe effect was also computed. The calculated spectrum agrees with the numerical results. We havefound a new type of stable, cosmological solution of the Einstein-Yang-Mills-Higgs equations.
