A projekt célja másodlagos hírvivő mechanizmusok szerepének pontosabb megismerése a növény-kórokozó kapcsolat kialakulásában.

Our aim was to investigate the role of secondary messenger systems in plant-pathogen interactions. The results indicate that in susceptible barley powdery mildew infection at late stage causes stress (ethylene release, membrane damage), but at the same time the biotrophic pathogen defends themselves and plant tissue from reactive oxygens by inducing high antioxidant activity. We proved that in addition to resistance genes, heat shock proteins, cell death inhibitor proteins or transcription factors can play an important role in barley mildew interaction. In addition, the elevated antioxidant activity in barley induced by Pirifomospora indica resulted in higher salt stress tolerance. In tobacco-tobacco mosaic virus interaction, not only salicylic acid, but lipid peroxidation and lipid composition can be important during formation of systemic acquired resistance. The significant role of brassinosteroids in biotic and abiotic stress tolerance of plants was confirmed. We suppose dual roles of reactive oxygen species and NADPH oxidase RBOHD in an Arabidopsis-Alternaria pathosystem. In conclusion, we suggest, that secondary messenger systems separately and in interaction with each other can significantly affect plant susceptibility and disease resistance.
