Summary in Hungarian
A Közép-kelet-európai országok, közöttük

Summary
Economies and agricultures of the East Central European countries, among them of Hungary

The aim of the project is to analyze the present state of national economies, agricultures and land tenure systems of the East Central European (ECE) countries accessing into the EU. The research would deal with the economies and agricultures of the three Baltic States, Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovak Republic and Slovenia. The task of the project is the examination of development of GDP, structures of economies, employment, flow of capital, international relations, foreign trade, balances of trade and current accounts of the mentioned countries and their comparisons. Concerning agriculture, research would deal with the development of production, its share in GDP, employment, land use, animal husbandry, food consumption, and foreign trade. I want to examine the state of food industries of the different countries, their structure of ownership and the flow of foreign direct investment into them and into the food trade. I want to deal with the development of the small and large farms, with the change of their sizes and structures, with their concentration. Research wants to generalize the major features of development and contribute to the political economy of the post socialist era.

Final report

Results in Hungarian
A kutatás az EU-hoz 10 újonnan csatlakozott ország – Bulgária, Csehország, Észtország, Lettország, Lengyelország, Litvánia, Magyarország, Románia, Szlovákia és Szlovénia, továbbá a jelölt országok közül Albánia, Horvátország és Szerbia gazdasági fejlődését vizsgálta. A vizsgálatban a mezőgazdaság kiemelt szerepet kapott. A legkevésbé fejlett országok növekedtek a leggyorsabban.
Results in English
Research dealt with the economies of ten new and three potential member countries, namely those of Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Albania, Croatia and Serbia. Agriculture had a prominent role in the analyses. After the economic collapse of the early nineties and the slow recovery of the mid nineties, the total and per capita GDP has rapidly grown from the late nineties to the beginning of the two thousand years. As a particular feature of the development, the least developed countries have grown fastest. Unfortunately the agricultural development lagged behind the general one. The fast development was carried out at the time of the accession of the new member countries and the association of the potential members. From the end of 1990s until the beginning of 2008 both the total and the per capita GDP have grown significantly in the mentioned countries, new industries and enterprises appeared and became wide-spread, the service sector has grown and became modernized, the unemployment rate diminished, the foreign trade has developed fast. The inflation rate has slowed down, the exchange rates became stable, two countries Slovenia and Slovakia became members of the EUR-zone.
