- In silico reprodukciója a mitotikus orsó kialakulásának és a megkettőződött kromoszómák szegregációjának a születendő két új sejtbe.
- Membrán nanocsövek kialakulása és dinamikája olyan fehérjék jelenlétében, amelyek érzékenyek a membrán lokális geometriájára; valamint a nanocsövek hirtelen alakváltozásának dinamikai leírása.
- A bakteriális transzformáció (DNS darabok környezetből való felvétele és beépítése a saját DNS-be) szerepének és evolúciós előnyének megértése populációdinamikai modellekkel.
angol összefoglaló
The research is focused on three interdisciplinary topics, where self-organization and collective phenomena have a crucial effect on subcellular structures and processes:
- In silico reproduction of the formation of the mitotic spindle and the segregation of replicated chromosomes into the daughter cells.
- Formation and dynamics of membrane nanotubes in the presence of proteins that are sensitive to the local membrane geometry; and dynamics of sudden shape changes.
- Study of the role and evolutionary advantage of the bacterial transformation (i.e. the uptake of external DNA and its recombination into the genome) with population dynamical models.

Zárójelentés

kutatási eredmények (magyarul)
- A kinezin nevű motorfehérje két fejét néhány jól meghatározott állapottal jellemezve, a két fejet összekötő neck-linkereket pedig szemiflexibilis polimerláncként leírva, termodinamikailag konzisztens módon felépítettük a dimerikus kinezin molekula teljes kinetikai modelljét [2][8].
- By characterizing the two heads of kinesin with a few well defined kinetic states and considering the two neck linkers (which connect the two heads) as semiflexible polymeric chains, we have constructed a complete kinetic model of the dimeric kinesin in a thermodynamically consistent way [2][8]. This is the first model that can reproduce much of the available experimental data and explain the synchronization of the heads. We have developed a method for determining the most relevant parameters of the stepping of motor proteins walking along DNA and RNA filaments [6]. We have investigated the internal frictions of proteins during conformational changes [7]. - Using theoretical calculations and numerical simulations we have uncovered the physical background behind several fundamental phenomena concerning the adhesion of membrane vesicles to solid surfaces followed their rupture. - We have developed an evolutionary model that explains the maintenance of natural genetic transformation in bacteria [1], and the studied the effect of our newly introduced spatial structure on game theoretic models [4]. We have shown that robustness can be greatly increased by recombination [3], and that a considerable correlation can be observed between genetic and environmental robustness [5].
