Summary in Hungarian
Olyan molekuláris fluidumok dielektromos tulajdonságainak vizsgálatával foglalkozunk, ahol a részecskék molekuláris polarizálhatósággal rendelkeznek. Modelljeink a polarizálható merevgömb (PHS), és polarizálható dipoláris merevgömb (PDHS) potenciálok, ill. ezek Lennard-Jones magú változatai (PLJ ill. PDLJ), amelyek nem additiv kölcsönhatások. Elsődleges vizsgálati módszerünk a Monte Carlo (MC) szimuláció. Mind tömbfázisban, mind inhomogén rendszerekben végeznénk vizsgálatokat. Ha a rendszerben lévő határfelület polarizálható, egy numerikus módszert alkalmaznánk a dielektromos határfelületen indukákódott töltések számitására.
Folyadékelegyek dielektromos állandójának móltörtfüggését az MC módszer mellett, a tiszta rendszerek esetén már eredményesnek bizonyult perturbációelméleti egyenleteink elegyekre való kiterjesztével tanulmányozzuk. Eredményeinket kísérleti adatokkal vetjük össze. Megvizsgáljuk apoláros anyagok (PHS ill. PLJ modellek) dielektromos állandóját külső teres MC szimulációk segítségével, meghatározzuk az indukált dipólusok közötti korrelációk hatását. Tanulmányozni kívánjuk továbbá a tenzoriális polarizálhatóság polarizálható fluidumok szerkezetére, illetve dielektromos tulajdonságaira gyakorolt hatását. Nagy permanens dipólusmomentummal rendelkező rendszerek esetén megvizsgáljuk a molekuláris polarizálhatóság hatását a láncosodásra és az orientációsan rendezett fázisok kialakulására.
Inhomogén rendszerekben elsősorban arra vagyunk kiváncsiak, hogy a polarizálható fal (sik fal, illetve pórus vagy üreg) jelenléte milyen hatással van a felsorolt rendszerekre, mint pl. elegyek esetén a két komponens viselkedésére a fal mellett.
Summary
We plan to study the dielectric properties of molecular fluids containing particles with molecular polarizabilities. Our models are the polarizable hard sphere (PHS) and polarizable dipolar hard sphere (PDHS) potenials, as well as their versions applying a Lennard-Jones core (PLJ and PDLJ), which are not pair-wise additive interactions. We would consider both bulk and inhomegeneous systems. If the wall in the system is polarizable, we would use a numerical method to compute the charges induced on the dielectric boundaries.
We would study the mole fraction dependence of the dielectric constant of liquid mixtures by the MC method and by the extension of our perturbation theoretical equations to mixtures that proved to be useful in the case of pure fluids. Our results will be compared to experimental data. We will study the dielectric constant of apolar fluids (PHS and PLJ models) by external field MC simulations; we will determine the correlations between the induced dipoles. Furthermore, we would like to investigate the effect of tensorial polarizability on the structural and dielectric properties of polarizable fluids. In the case of fluids with large permanent dipole moments, we will study the effect of molecular polarizability on chain formation and appearance of orientationally ordered phases.
In inhomogeneous systems, our primary interest is in the effect of polarizable walls (in a planar geometry, in a pore, or in a cavity) on the systems listed above; for example, in the case of mixtures, on the behaviour of the two components near the boundary.

A pályázat alapvető célja a dielektrikumok vizsgálata többféle nézőpontból. Mikroszkopikus szinten, azaz explicit módon kezelve a molekulákat statisztikus mechanikai eszközökkel vizsgálhatóak a dielektromos tulajdonságok. Ehhez megfelelő modellek felállítása szükséges, mi apoláros anyagok esetén a polarizálható merevgömböt választottuk, míg poláros anyagok esetén parciális töltésekkel modelleztük a dipólusmomentumot. Vizsgáltuk elektroreológiai fluidumok intermolekuláris potenciálját a részecskéket dielektromos gömbökként modellezve.

The basic goal of the proposal was to study the dielectrics from different points of view. On the microscopic level, treating the molecules explicitly the dielectric properties can be studied by the tools of statistical mechanics. For this we need appropriate models. We chose the polarizable hard sphere model for apolar fluids, while partial charges represented the dipole moment in the case of polar fluids. We also studied the origin of the interparticle potential of electrorheological fluids applying the dielectric sphere model. If we handle the dielectrics in an implicit way, we replace it with a dielectric continuum. We applied this continuum model in several publications for bulk electrolytes, electrical double layers, and ion channels. I highlight the following results: our II+IW model that is able to explain the non-monotonic concentration dependence of the activity coefficient of electrolytes and the selective adsorption of ions with different diameter and valence at highly charged interfaces.
