A nemzeti nyelv ügye a XVIII. század második felének és a XIX. század elejének legfontosabb kérdései közé tartozik, az irodalom státusával éppen olyan szoros összefüggésben van, mint a nemzetfogalom korabeli történetével. A kérdéssel régóta foglalkozom, az utóbbi években igen intenzíven, ezek a – jórészt OTKA támogatással folytatott – kutatásaim eredménye két, 2005-ben és 2007-ben megjelent kötet. A most beadásra kerülő pályázat az elmúlt évek végzett kutatások folytatása: az eddigi munkák a kérdés XVIII. századra eső történetével foglalkoztak, a most folyó munka – Kazinczy Ferenc vonatkozó tevékenységének elemzésével – a nyelv ügyének XIX. század első két évtizedére eső fejezetét tárja fel.
Summary
The cause of the Hungarian language is one of the key issues in the second half of the 18th century and in the early 19th century. It is as closely related to the state of literature as to the history of the concept of the nation. I have been researching the area for a long time, and more intensively in the past few years. These studies – primarily sponsored by OTKA – resulted in two volumes, published in 2005 and 2007. This new proposal continues the research that I performed in the past years: the subject of previous work was the history of the 18th-century part of the issue, current work focuses on the cause of the language in the first two decades of the 19th century, by analyzing Ferenc Kazinczy's relevant activities.

Az OTKA a pályázat elfogadásával egy korábban elkezdett kutatás utolsó két évét támogatta: a pályázat beadásának az idején - mint a vonatkozó dokumentumokból kitűnik - nem csak a munka koncepciója alakult ki, de a szöveg viszonylag jelentős része is elkészült már. A pályázat által nyújtott lehetőségeket (elsősorban egy három hetes kutatómunkát a Bibliotheque Nationaleban) kihasználva valamivel a határidő előtt, 2009 végére készültem el a teljes szöveggel s adtam át a Kiadónak. A könyv 2010 áprilisában jelent meg, miután sikerrel vett részt az OTKA publikációs pályázatán is. A megjelenés után az Argumentum Kiadó természetesen elküldött egy példányt az OTKA Iroda számára.

By accepting the application, OTKA provided support for the last two years of a research project that had started earlier: by the time of submitting the application – as the related documents show – not only the concept of the work, but also a rather significant amount of the text had already been finished. The grant established opportunities (primarily a three-week research in the Bibliotheque Nationale) which allowed me to complete the work slightly before the deadline, by the end of 2009, and to submit the entire text to the publisher. The book was published successfully in April 2010, after winning a grant in the OTKA publication call for proposal as well (8170). At the time of publication, Argumentum Kiadó sent a copy to the OTKA office.
