magyar összefoglaló
A jelen pályázat alapvető célja spintronikai eszközök és grafén nanoszerkezetek vizsgálata, amelyekhez a kvantummechanikai leírás nélkülözhetetlen nanométeres skálán. Spintronikai félvezető eszközökben fontos szerepet játszik a spin-pálya csatolás. Rétegezett grafénben az elektronok viselkedése számos hasonlóságot mutat a kvantumelektrodinamika szabad Dirac-fermionjaival. Ugyanakkor a grafénben lévő elektronok viselkedése kísérletileg könnyebben tanulmányozható.
The principal aim of the present proposal is to investigate spintronic devices and graphene nanostructures for which the quantum description is inevitable at nanometer scale. In spintronic semiconductor devices the spin-orbit coupling plays a major role. In layered graphenes the dynamics of the electron shows many similarities with the free Dirac fermions in quantum electrodynamics. But in graphene the experimental study of the properties of the electrons is easier.
In spintronic devices we investigate the electronic properties and the special scattering processes related to the spin-orbit coupling. In graphene we study the electron transport, the shot noise, the dynamics of electrons under applied inhomogeneous magnetic field, and phenomena related to the negative refractive index. Moreover, based on our earlier research experiences we shall study hybrid systems in which building blocks consist of graphene and superconductors. Our primary aim is to explain theoretically some of the experimental results and initiate new one.
We expect that our research mentioned above reveals novel phenomena and may provide potential applications in condensed matter physics and in nanotechnology.
The work outlined in this proposal is a fundamental and theoretical research. Our results will be published in prominent international journals and will be presented in conferences.

In our theoretical researches we studied the spectral and scattering problems in spintronic, graphene and graphene-superconductor systems using quantum mechanical and semiclassical methods. We studied the electronic transport properties of layered graphene systems using the Kubo-formalism and the Landauer approach. We had works on electron optics in bilayered graphene. We studied the hybrid systems consisting of layered graphene systems and superconductors. We developed a general theory of Zitterbewegung and showed that it can be related to the Hall-conductivity, the Berry phase and the Chern number for several quantum systems such as spintronic, layered graphene. We found that in the presence of magnetic impurities pseudo-gaps open at the Fermi-level causing partial screening due to multifractality at and around the Anderson transition and for weak values of coupling. The success of the present project was warranted by a long term cooperation with C. J. Lambert (Lancaster University, UK), C. W. J. Beenakker (University of Leiden, Netherlands) and B. Eckhardt, F. Gebhard and M. Kira (Philipps University Marburg, Germany). Our results were published in prominent international and national journals, and presented in several conferences and workshops.
