magyar összefoglaló
Az algák és cianobaktériumok toxintermelésének vizsgálata csupán néhány évtizedes múltra tekint vissza, ám az általuk termelt változatos toxinokkal összefüggésbe hozott mérgezéses esetekről több száz évvel ezelőttről is maradtak fenn leírások. E szervezetek által termelt, változatos kémiai szerkezettel és hatásmechanizmussal bíró cianotoxinok vizsgálata szerepük tisztázására, hatásmechanizmusuk feltárására, termelésük körülményeire, valamint analitikájuk megoldására nagy kihívást jelentett és jelent több tudományterület képviselői számára. Pályázatunk célja a probléma komplex hidrobiológiai vizsgálata, amely során mind terepi- hidrobiológiai vizsgálatokat, mind laboratóriumi kísérleteket kívánunk elvégezni a klasszikus megközelítések mellett molekuláris biológiai és műszeres analitikai módszerek felhasználásával. Kutatómunkánkban folytatni kívánjuk a magyarországi vízterek fotoszintetizáló, toxintermelő planktonikus szervezeteinek, és a szervezetek mérgező anyagcseretermékeinek vizsgálatát. E vizsgálatok eredményei, a laboratóriumi izolált toxintermelő szervezettekkel végzett ökofiziológiai vizsgálatainak eredményei mellett, továbbra is nemzetközi érdeklődésre tartanak számot. Az alapkutatás tudományos eredményei, a toxintermelés körülményei, a vízterekben megjelenő valós algatoxin-koncentrációk és a toxintermelő szervezetek fiziológiai jellemzése. A toxikus algák, cianobaktériumok egyes gazdasági hasznosítás alá eső vízterekben (halastavak, víztározók, felszíni ivóvízbázisok, öntözőcsatornák, szabad-strandok) komoly károkat okoznak/okozhatnak. Kísérleti eredményeink tudományos közleményekben és folyóiratokban történő közzétételükön túl a gazdasági jelentőséggel bíró vízterek toxinhatással szembeni védelmében hasznosulnak.
angol összefoglaló
Mass developments of algae and cyanobacteria mainly caused by eutrophication of aquatic ecosystems both in fresh water and in marine environments are a worldwide problem. Besides the ecologically important suppression of other cyanobacterial blooms hold a high risk for human and animal health due to the ability of several species to produce potent toxins. The cyanobacterial and algal toxins are a diverse group of natural toxins, both from the chemical and the toxicological points of view.
The present research project focuses on occurrences and importance of mass production of toxic algae and cyanobacteria and their toxins in domestic waters using our developed analytical methods and molecular method too. In addition, we focus mainly on the alteration of cyanotoxin-production under different environmental conditions. The main benefit of the obtained support for the country, that the one and only Hungarian overall-cyanotoxinology group can continue it’s scientific activity, they will produce new and internationally recognized results in the future too.
The expected benefit of the project, is clearing up the occurrences, the real concentrations and the roles of the cyanobacterial and algal toxins in Hungarian fresh-waters use for economy, like fishery, water-supply, irrigation canal, recreational water, pounds and shallow-lakes in nature conservation area. The results of fundamental research will be transformed to practical application in short term through the mediation of a spin-off company, that strongly collaborates with our research group.
