Summary in Hungarian
Pályázatunk célja, hogy K48820 számú OTKA kutatásunk eredményeit könyv formájában a szakmai és a szélesebb olvasóközönség részére hozzáférhetővé tegyük. A munka a szerző habilitációs értekezésének átdolgozott, könyv formának megfelelő változata.
Summary
The aim of the application is to make the results of our OTKA research (K48820) available in a book for both the experts and the reading public. The work is a revised version of the author's habilitation dissertation. In a way the dissertation meets a need in the literature of pedagogy and sociology in Hungary. It is widely held that women have reached equality in education which is why the research into gender differences in education is not relevant any more. In the book both theoretical, historical and empirical research results are presented, which, contrary to the above point of view, highlight the relevance of research in this field. According to our results women have an advantage over men in several fields of education. Girls outnumber boys in secondary schools and in higher education, and altogether their efficiency is greater in secondary school. They are also in a more advantageous situation in several fields of informal learning and the cultural capital they have obtained is also larger, and their social and school mobility is also greater. However some of our results, such as the differences between women and men in job experience and attitude to work and the greater efficiency of men in some indexes in higher education indicate the future advantages of men in the labor market. In our analysis we have focused not only on gender inequalities in education, but differences according to gender, which can be of interest both in themselves and in general.
