Summary in Hungarian
A modellezés mellett kísérleteket is tervezünk eredményeink ellenőrzésére. A pályázatban három kutató mellett két egyetemi hallgató szerepel résztvevőként. Eredményeinket nemzetközi folyóiratcikkekben és tudományos konferenciákon fogjuk ismertetni.
Summary
Numerical modeling and simulation in basic research represents today a complementary approach to theoretical calculations and experimental investigations. Based on our experience gained in the field and the international collaborations established during the past 15 years, our planned basic research focuses on the investigation of many-particle systems appearing in two areas of (non-fusion) plasma physics. In the field of low-temperature non-equilibrium plasmas we plan to describe through microscopic simulations the kinetics of electrons and ions in direct-current and radio-frequency discharges, nonlinear and transient effects in the plasma, as well as to study the crucial issue of the importance of electron emission from the electrodes in radiofrequency discharges. In the field of strongly coupled plasmas we plan detailed studies of correlation functions of many-particle systems, which are related to transport coefficients, the implementation of Langevin dynamics in molecular dynamics codes to obtain a more correct description of strongly-coupled systems embedded in a plasma environment, where randomly fluctuating forces act on the system. We plan to study thermodynamic characteritics and properties of collective excitations in single- and multi-component strongly-coupled many-particle systems. We also intend to emulate quantum properties of such systems by using in our classical many-particle codes interaction potentials derived from quantum Monte Carlo simulations. The primary aim of our work is to understand the basic physical phenomena taking place in the above mentioned systems, mainly through utilizing the possibilities of numerical modeling and simulation. We also plan experimental studies to verify our simulation results. Besides the three researchers two students participate in the present application. The research results will be communicated in international scientific journals and at conferences.
