Mindezek az eredmények döntően kihatnak a Duna-Tisza köze ivóvízkészletének meghatározására, vízbázis védelemére, a geotermikus energiakészlet kiaknázhatóságának becslésére, hulladék elhelyezésre illetve fokozattan veszélyes létesítmények építési kockázatainak felmérésére.
Summary
The main goal of the project is to study the post-Pannonian evolution history of the western basin margin areas of the Quaternary depression of the Great Hungarian Plain. This includes the complex sedimentological and structural investigations of the different sub-basins, as well as the western basin margin areas, and the evaluation of tectonic control on sedimentation and landscape development. The study areas mainly include the hilly regions around the western part of the Great Hungarian Plain (Slavonia, eastern margin of the Baranya-, Tolna-, Somogy Hills, S-SW part of the Gödöllő and Cserhát Hills). The inner margin of the Great Hungarian Plain and the basin interior areas are going to be studied, too at a less extent.
Based on the sedimentological and stratigraphical investigations of the Plio-Pleistocene sediments around the western basin margin, the geological and structural evolution of the area will be outlined. Expected results include the correlation of basin margin sequences with the main sedimentary units of the western basin interior areas, in the frame of a complex geotectonic evolution history.
The results are expected to be broadly utilised in groundwater management policies of the Duna-Tisza area, investigation of geothermal resources of the basin, outlining of waste repository sites, as well as risk assessment of hazardous investments/constructions.
